Despite the false belief that sparkling wine is a relatively recent trend, it actually dates back to the 1st century when the traditional drink was produced in the Champagne region to be consumed at the coronation festivities of the French monarchs. Perhaps for this reason sparkling wine was ‘pigeonholed’ the favourite beverage of the aristocracy. Nevertheless, the idea that fizz is only drunk on special or ‘grand’ occasions is now a thing of the past. Nowadays we drink bubbles anywhere, anytime – at lunchtime, between meals, in the bar, as a sundowner… It’s perfect for drinking on its own, or with a good meal, as it provides acidity and adds balance to the dishes, as well as a delicate and intense aroma that produces a refreshing sensation on the palate.
Cava and Champagne
Cava and Champagne are both sparkling wines produced with very similar processes, however they are very different wines; the climate, soil, grape varieties or legal standards governing their production, give these two sparkling wines their distinct personalities.
Moët & Chandon Ice, a growing trend. BEDRINKS
